Telecontrol of Heating Substations for the city of Le Mans

In order to optimize its energy needs, the city of Le Mans (France) has chosen a telecontrol solution for its heat distribution system. This telecontrol involves more than 65 substations distributed within a large residential zone and covers the primary and secondary aspects of the network. The SOCCRAM Company, the operator, selected the TBOX equipment for the system.

The solution has been designed to meet the need to optimize energy costs on two counts:

• Complete regulation, appropriate to the various demands (timetable and heating curves).

• Dynamic charting and recording of the various temperatures allowing better network surveillance.

Information is centralized in deferred mode by telephone link over the national phone network to a central supervisory station. The remote use of Minitel allows the system to be controlled and displayed, and will reveal any changes in the temperature control points.

The main advantages of the TBOX solution for the operator are:

• Better service to users

• Extremely fast return on investment as a result of savings made and preventive maintenance facilities

• Rapid, flexible installation thanks to the virtual cabling function

• Can be developed over time irrespective of the number of controls to be installed.

• Single unit for doing the heating regulation and telecontrol.

• Data are recorded so that temperatures can be accurately monitored

• Telecontrol of control points

• Automatic call-out alarm to specialized personnel
